Association & management board
The LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost was established in 2007 and serves as the basic structure and sponsor for LEADER programs in the eastern Weinviertel. In July 2023, the LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost was once recognised as a local action group (LAG) for the 2023 – 2027 funding period.
The LAG consists of 58 municipalities, which comprise the area of the LEADER region. Delegates from the member municipalities come from the public sector, while representatives from civil society represent the diversity of the region as associate members.
The most important bodies of the LEADER region are the general assembly, the association management board and the project selection committee.

The association
The LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost is a non-profit organisation that pursues two main objectives: It is a local action group (LAG) within the framework of the European LEADER program. The LEADER region in the eastern Weinviertel is responsible for establishing regional models and development strategies with dedicated objectives, measures and projects in their sphere of influence. In addition, one of the main goals of the organisation strives is sustainable and integrative development of the region by effectively coordinating work and action and steering them with a constant eye to the future. In this sense, the priority is not profit, but the well-being of the region.
The general assembly
The general assembly is the association's pre-eminent decision-making body. The general assembly typically meets at least once a year. All members of the LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost are entitled to participate. Delegates from the ranks of extraordinary and ordinary members are also entitled to vote. The latter are appointed by the regional council. Specifications regarding the number and appointment of delegates ensure that the applicable thresholds for decision-making (proportion of public representatives, civil society, women, etc.) are upheld.
The management board
The management board of the LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost another important body. Consisting of eight people, the management board is the association's governing body and counts the chairperson, two deputy chairpersons, the treasurer, the deputy treasurer, the secretary, the deputy secretary and one additional board member among its members. The management board appoints the LEADER management team (office team) for the execution of LAG tasks.

The project selection committee
The project selection committee consists of 21 people and rules on the implementation of the local development strategy on the basis of transparent selection procedures and objective criteria. It represents different socio-economic sectors and ensures interests are balanced, with no demographic entitled to more than 49% of the votes. Nine of the available seats are reserved for women and nine for men, while three seats are gender-neutral.
