Vacant property management Weinviertel
vacancy [noun]: vacancy refers to entire buildings, parts of buildings and undeveloped local spaces when they fall out of use or are not put to a designated use within a (customary) period of one year. Vacancy affects buildings and parts of buildings regardless of their structural condition and previous use. Undeveloped local space is defined as vacant if dedicated and developed building land is undeveloped and embedded in a settlement, regardless of maintenance and previous use.
Vacancies are becoming an increasingly explosive issue in the communities of the Weinviertel. For this reason, three LEADER regions in the Weinviertel (Weinviertel East, Weinviertel Donauraum, Marchfeld) are launching the “Full House Weinviertel” initiative. We dealt intensively with the topic and learned from successful examples in order to collect valuable knowledge and practice-oriented materials for effective vacancy management. On this website we make our know-how as well as all the materials and impulses we have developed available. Vacancies also mean opportunities and represent great potential for future-oriented local development - we would like to support our communities and all makers.

Impulse on vacancy work in the weinviertel
In 2023 and 2024, numerous impulses were given to activate vacancies in the LEADER regions of the Weinviertel. Many new insights were gained through a variety of activities and initiatives such as a conference on vacancy work, a specialist excursion to Steyr, a film evening “Save the Village” and various impulse evenings. The results offer exciting insights and show new paths.
Good examples from the weinviertel
Vacancies represent an ever greater challenge for the communities in the Weinviertel. But there are already inspiring examples of how old, unused buildings are given new life and become part of the community again. Such projects show how creative solutions can contribute to the revitalization and sustainable use of vacant properties.
