Digitalization, smart technologies and the changing demands of target groups are leading to new areas of responsibility for municipalities. Despite the challenges, there is no way around the digitalization of municipal administration. For this reason, the LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost organized a symposium on this topic on 11.10.2022. „How to become a digital community“
Christoph Kral, MA MSc - culturehack e.U., Expert in the field of e-government
Christoph Kral from culturehack e.U. gave various tips for municipalities to become digital. For example, citizens should be involved via communication platforms in order to contribute ideas. Optimizing the website for smartphones is also an important step. Other points for websites include accessibility, data protection and what citizens are looking for on the website. He also explained that it is still important to offer analog options. The political basis, i.e. the decision of the municipal council, must also be taken into account. Click here for the Handout.
„Digital municipalities"
Bgm. Jürgen Lachinger & AL Christoph Stockinger, MBA, MPA - Gampern (Upper Austria)
Mayor Jürgen Lachinger and Head of Department Christoph Stockinger from the municipality of Gampern in Upper Austria were also guests at the event. The municipality of Gampern is considered a model digital municipality. They showed the advantages of a digital municipality and how they digitized the work at the municipal office with various tools and devices, such as tablets, a VPN client, company cell phones and a telephone system. The first lecture block ended with a discussion round. Anton Gruber from the Federal Computing Center, Johannes Rund, Christoph Kral, Christoph Stockinger and Jürgen Lachinger took part. Further valuable tips for municipalities were given and questions from the audience were answered.

GemDatLower Austria Managing Director Leopold Kitir spoke about digital administrative procedures. He used a recipe to explain how the digital administration process is possible. „Chatbot für Municipalities“
Bgm. Christian Frank - LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost
Mayor and LEADER chairman Christian Frank presented the community chatbot, which was created as part of a project by the Weinviertel Ost LEADER region and is being further developed. With sample questions from various areas, the advantages of the bot for municipalities were demonstrated and the system behind it explained. Click here for the website with the test chatbot.
„Digital citizen participation: How the Internet can lead to co-determination“
David Röthler - MiLeNu GmbH, Expert for digital citizen participation
David Röthler from MiLeNu GmbH talked about digital citizen participation. He showed examples such as the live broadcasting of local council meetings, the Topotheque, an online citizens' council and various platforms for obtaining opinions.

„LENIE – Living in Lower Austria: Pilot platform for digital village and community life“

Berhard Gerhardter from the Lower Austrian provincial government was a guest and presented LENIE, Life in Lower Austria, the pilot platform for digital village and community life. The platform is intended to enable people to contribute their ideas and implement them together in order to encourage citizens to actively participate. The municipality of Herrnbaumgarten is participating as a pilot municipality in the Weinviertel Ost LEADER region. Click here for the Handout.
