Artistic vacancy use

The project Artistic Vacancy Use puts up for discussion potential uses of vacant buildings by means of selected objects: An empty shop in the center of Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel and the Meierhof in Groß-Schweinbarth become model cases for temporary use in 2017 as part of the Viertelfestival (regional art festival) Lower Austria. As such the festival's motto “metamorphoses” also stands for the discussion of the vacancy problem in the eastern Weinviertel and the development of new forms of use for the selected objects.

By temporarily establishing the Plaudercafe (chat coffehouse) in Wolkersdorf and the Cafe Swinwart in Groß-Schweinbarth meeting places for participatory processes are created. They are mainly used as contact points for creative stakeholders and interested citizens during the three month-long festival. Seven workshops of varying kinds ensure artistic productions and a common discussion and creative work. The workshops are dedicated to interactive participation of citizens and are guided and accompanied by artists. A core component of the programs at both sites is the “idea wall vacancy use” where ideas for new and innovative forms of use of vacant buildings can be suggested.
