Culture in the field - field monument database

Field monuments are almost a natural part of our cultural landscape and often a worthwhile photo motif. And they actually have something to tell. But what do we know about them? Why was the simple wooden cross, the elaborately designed tabernacle pillar or the statue of Nepomuk erected? And why here, in this place? The field monument database www.marterl.at was developed as part of a LEADER project in 2011. At that time, numerous field monuments in the eastern Weinviertel could be surveyed and digitized. In order to revive the awareness of the population for the wayside shrine and also to arouse interest among young people, the LEADER Region Weinviertel Ost wants to revive the field monument database with the present initiative and make it known in the communities.
