Festlbus Mistelbach

Sustainable mobility is not only an absolute necessity in the fight against climate change. It

can also support local festivities and youth culture. The proof for this can be served by the

youth project “Festlbus”, which in the year 2023 enabled young citizens in the Leader region

“Weinviertel Ost” safe travels to their desired evening events and/or back home.

The concept of the Festlbus is simple: On several lines, buses drive through the

LEADER-region and with that guarantee a safe, cheap and environmentally friendly

commute to the desired evening-events nearby. The passengers can buy tickets until very

shortly before the departure, if there are still some available and the tickets get validated by

the bus driver.

The sold number of tickets in the year 2023 proves the high popularity of the project

amongst the local youth: On seven evenings, all in all more than 2000 tickets were sold. On

some evenings, for some lines, not even a single ticket was left, respectively some lines

were already sold out days before the event.

As a consequence, the Festlbus fulfilled its goal and the goal of the LEADER-region: Many

adolescents in the region visited events in an environmentally friendly way, CO2 emissions

were saved. Additionally, parents didn’t have to take their children late in the evening to

events, but more importantly: Young drivers, without a lot of driving experience do not have

to drive in the middle of the night. Last but not least, adolescents as well as their parents

saved a lot of money, as going by taxi can be very expensive.
