Trees personalities

After completion of the project, the natural monument in Hörersdorf, an old linden in front of the kindergarten, is finally receiving its deserved attention. Teachers and parents have reported how children regularly stop in front of the tree to closely observe the linden. Moreover, children register the changes throughout the seasons more intensely, and every new bud is welcomed enthusiastically. The kids especially remembered the animal inhabitants of the linden (such as squirrel, woodpecker or firebug) and now also appreciate the tree as a habitat for living creatures. For the kids, the major historic differences to earlier days were that the tree used to be very small and that the kindergarten used to be a primary school. More abstract differences, such as people’s lifestyles or the lack of cars, were more difficult for the children to grasp.

A small booklet and personal „tree personalities“-memory – the prize given to each child after a treasure hunt – allow kids to further engage with „their“ tree, even after expiration of the project.
